Meet The Skating First Team

KRIS FONDRAN – SKATING FIRST DIRECTOR

Along with a BS in Elementary Education, Master Degree in Exercise Science, and various skating, fitness and yoga related certifications, Kris has over 30 years experience teaching skaters of all ages and skating disciplines. For over 25 years Kris has worked primarily with hockey players on and off the ice helping to develop and enhance skating technique, power and speed. She has worked with many  Cleveland area high school teams, recreational leagues, AA teams and individual players.  As director of the Inline Certification Program (ICP), Kris has developed and implemented instructor training programs in the United States and world-wide since 1998. 

In 2010, with the encouragement and support of the inline skate company Rollerblade, Kris launched the Mobile Yoga Workout. The Mobile Yoga Workout has been featured in numerous fitness related publications around the world. Kris continues to work with Rollerblade as an educational consultant and Rollerblade Team member developing various programs and skating videos. For the last three years she has also had the pleasure to work with Sled Dogs Snowskates helping to develop the educational framework for this exciting new snowsport! In 2004 she was named "Best Skating Instructor" in Scene Magazine's Best of Cleveland Edition. Since 2008, Kris has been a part-time lecturer in the department of  Health and Human Performance and Cleveland State University where she currently teaches wellness and teacher education classes.

Krista Heubusch-Skills Specialist 

Krista has been teaching inline skating since 1992 and has been an examiner for the Inline Certification Program (ICP) certifying instructors around the world since 1993. She is the owner of Skaters Quest Skate School and head coach of the Skater's Quest Speed Team in Arlington, VA. Krista has regularly trained with speed skating legend Eddy Matzger and many of her drills are inspired by what she learned from Eddy and other top athletes and coaches. For the last 16 years she has organized, promoted and directed the Skate of Union Race in Washington, DC. Krista will be conducting the Plyometrics for Skaters classes during the Summer Mile Club & Fitness Challenge.

Jared Lavender – Skills Specialist

Born and raised in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, Jared grew up playing hockey in the Cleveland Heights youth hockey program and graduated from Cleveland Heights High School where he played four years of varsity hockey.Jared went on to play two seasons with the Cleveland Jr Lumberjacks and one season with the St. Ignace Black Bears of the NOJHL.

After junior hockey he graduated from Castleton State College (ECAC East D III)  where he majored in Business administration, focus in Management and Marketing and played four years of hockey for the Castleton Spartans.With a lot of hard work and a little bit of luck he was given the opportunity to play pro hockey for five seasons with the Missouri Mavericks, Quad City Mallards, Evansville Icemen, Ft. Worth Brahmas and the Louisiana Ice Gators. Jared retired from pro hockey in 2014 and is currently coaching the '05 Jr. Jacks and is a skills development coach for the "Tot Hockey" and "Learn to Play" programs in Cleveland Heights. When he is not on the ice coaching or teach Jared is working for Keller National Insurance brokerage as an Account Executive.

David Macrum – Skills Specialist

David "Coach Macrum" is a Kindergarten teacher in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District. He received his Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction and his Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education both from Cleveland State University. David began his coaching career in 2011 in Cleveland Heights where he taught learn to play and adaptive skating. The foundation of his strong teaching background has helped David confidently develop players from the ADM to the Bantam level. 

 David is currently coaching in Mentor Youth Program in Mentor where his Pewee youth Hockey level team won the division and playoff in the A3 division 2017-2018 season. In addition to his formal teaching background, David is also a USA Hockey C.E.P. Level 4 coach. Fun fact: David is best known as “Elbow” playing for Cleveland State University Club Hockey team and a former member of the board in 2009-2010 season. David will be on site for the in person inline skating classes throughout the summer

Karin Faletic – Skills Specialist

As a classroom Special Education teacher, Karin has experience with teaching children with a variety of learning styles and needs which she transfers easily to the ice.  In addition to her time in the classroom,  Karin brings over 20 years of teaching skating, primarily learn to skate and learn to play hockey to Skating First.  

Allie Sharon – Skills Specialist

Allie grew up playing hockey in the Cleveland Heights, OH playing on the Cleveland Hetights Youth Hockey Program, the all girls Phantom Flames team and finally for Cleveland Heights School. At the College of Wooster she played on the coed club hockey team and after transferring to The Ohio State University, she played on the women's club hockey team.

Allie's undergraduate degree is in psychology (sure to come in handy when working with young hockey players!) and she is currently working on her master degree in occumpational therapy at Cleveland State University. She is currently assist coach of the U17 girls team at Gilmour School. Allie believes that to be a great hockey player you need to be a great skater. Basic skating skills need to be masterd before a player can truly reach his or her full potential. Allie will be conducting the stickhandling and shooting sessions for the Summer Mile Club & Fitness Challenge.

Carly Menges – Skills Specialist

Coach Menges grew up in Cleveland and played at Gilmour Academy for the Girls Prep team. Following high school she played NCAA Division I hockey at the University of Maine for 1 semester before transferring to NCAA Division III Norwich University for the remainder of her college career. While at Norwich, the team won 3 conference championships, and made 2 visits to NCAA Frozen 4 tournament, winning the division 3 national championship in 2018. Coach Menges was named to the All-Tournament team at the 2018 Frozen Four, and was awarded with the Elite 90 award at the 2017 NCAA Frozen Four Tournament. She graduated from Norwich in 2019 with a Health Sciences degree and is now perusing her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree at Cleveland State University. Coach Menges is beginning her second season as Gilmour Gladiators Girls 19u Tier 2 head coach. Her two main goals her players are to have fun and get better. She enjoys coaching because it allows her to give back to hockey and still be a part of the game. Carly will be conducting the stickhandling and shooting sessions for the Summer Mile Club & Fitness Challenge.

Logan Anderson – Assistant Skills Specialist

Logan has been been taking lessons to develop his hockey skating skills since he was 5 years old. Growing up in Cleveland Heights, Logan came through the Cleveland Heights Youth Hockey program, has played for the Jr. Jacks, Team Audi, and is a 2020 member of the Heights High Hockey team and graduate of Cleveland Heights High School. The decade Logan has spent honing his own skating skills through actively taking skating lessons is evident as he truly understands, from a experiential standpoint, the mechanics of hockey skating basics and is able to impart this knowledge to young players in a way that is clear and relatable. We are so pleased to have Logan as part of the Skating First Team!

SPORTS & FITNESS TEAM

Nicholas Chambers – Exercise Fitness Specialist

Nicholas graduated from Cleveland State University in May 2019 with a Master Degree in Exercise Science. In 2017, Nicholas was part of an undergraduate summer research team that conducted, assisted and participated in, numerous studies for the department of Health & Human Performance even winning an award for research conducted on the health benefits of inline skating! Nicholas has always played a variety of sports growing up and currently has a passion for CrossFit training.  His biggest goal in life is to push himself harder than he did the day before because he believes that only when we fail do we grow.  For the Summer Mile Club & Fitness Challenges, Nick will be making "guest appearances" during the Body Weight Sessions throughout the summer.

Greggory Hoberney – Exercise Fitness Specialist

Greggory currently hold two personal training certifications; one from Lakeland Community College and one from The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). In spring of 2018, Greggory completed a Bachelor degree in Exercise Science graduating Magna Cum Laude. For his undergraduate practicum, he spent 6 months as a cardiac/pulmonary rehabilitation assistant at St. Vincent Medical Center where he had the opportunity to work with a diverse population of patients and a variety of health care workers. His previous experience includes being a strength and conditioning coach for a high school football team, a personal trainer at a gym and an aquatics aerobic instructor at a therapy center.

Sharlie Dickey – Exercise Fitness Specialist

Sharlie finished her Bachelors degree in Exercise Science at Cleveland State University in May of 2018.  Sharlie is currently an athletic trainer. When she isn't working with athletes she finds time to participate in a beach volleyball league as well as an indoor soccer team. Sharlie is an avid runner and enjoys taking her dog on runs and hikes.
